In her artistic practice, Orla Galligan often explores themes related to textiles, ecology, and place-based work. Galligan has participated in various exhibitions that highlight her connection to place and environment. Notably, she was part of the ‘Knockbride – An Artist’s Response’ exhibition, which celebrated the rich heritage and inspiration drawn from the Knockbride landscape. This exhibition featured works by local artists reflecting on the area’s landscape and history. Her piece titled ‘Celtic Deities’ is a needle-felted artwork reflecting her engagement with textile mediums and cultural themes.

Additionally, Galligan’s work ‘Panic Buttons’ was featured in the ‘Periodical Review #2’ at Pallas Projects in Dublin, where it was noted for its impactful presence.

She has successfully completed a number of Artist Residencies including the Art@Work Residency at Feelystone in Boyle, Roscommon, where she explored stone as a medium for the first time. Her project, Patchwork in Stone, consists of 55 blocks of granite, limestone, and marble, each engraved with a unique symbol or design related to her residency experience. This residency allowed her to experiment with new materials and techniques, expanding her sculptural practice and gaining hands-on experience with stone carving and engraving technologies.

Through her diverse body of work, Galligan continues to engage deeply with themes of ecology, sustainability, cultural heritage, and the interplay between art and place.
